Ms. Saira Omar, Managing Director PSIC, visited the Metal Craft Artisan Village (MCAV) to engage directly with the talented artists of the MCAV Artists Residency 2025. During her visit, she interacted with the artists to understand their experiences, challenges, and aspirations firsthand. Ms. Saira deeply appreciated the respect and dedication that these artists are bringing to their craft, acknowledging the unique fusion of artist and artisan that defines the soul of this village.
This initiative stands as one-of-a-kind in Pakistan — a government-owned project aimed at reviving traditional metal crafts. MD PSIC remarked on the significance of the individual artisan shops, not just as workplaces, but as vibrant centers of creativity and cultural preservation, forming a growing and dynamic art community.
The visit highlighted the unique challenges artisans face and the incredible potential they hold. MD reaffirmed PSIC’s commitment to nurturing such talent, recognizing this village as a model to be replicated in the upcoming Gandhara Art Village and Salt Village Khewra. For the first time in Pakistan, such artisan-led, government-supported hubs are being developed with heritage revival at their core.
MD concluded with a powerful message: “𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦.”
